First published in London in 1988, this study introduces the predominant cultures of the ancient Near East (Babylonian, Assyrian, Egyptian, Palestinian, Sumerian, Medean/Persian, Hittite and Hurrian, and Indus Valley). As excavation continues at sites of these first societies, their annals are in need of frequent revision, which this book provides. Saggs has a knack for drawing together the most telling details from the jumble of cultural data and presenting them in such a way that we truly see each culture as it was at its zenith, and its heritage to the world. There is an especially informative look as the cross-cultural development of writing. Though factual material is often repeated, and the author's data or analysis may not always be quite current, this is nonetheless an accurate and lively picture of an area typically neglected by Western educators. - Jo-Ann D. Suleiman, Sanad Support Tech
This wide-ranging work examines the more notable achievements of the pre-classical peoples of the world. Drawing on archeological discoveries in Egypt, Mesopotamia, Crete, Syria, Anatolia, Iran and the Indus Valley, the author shows how much the infrastructure of late Greco-Roman and subsequent European civilizations owes to the peoples of the Near and Middle East. The text highlights the mastery of materials these people achieved, from the vast works of stone created by the Egyptians to the development of technology in bronze and iron and the introduction of useful plants. A final chapter on religion explains how, alongside many superstitious beliefs and practices, there was a striving towards eternal values and elements that foreshadowed Christianity.

Chapter 7 - Understanding Databinding
Another of the major concepts in XAML is databinding, the subject for this next chapter. Also I collect cookbooks so this fits right into my "celebrity" category.. Cooke-Yarborough; 27. A neglected master. A nice book full of little interesting stories, tips, hints and recipes to help with everything from cooking, cleaning and self care. This is a beautiful presentation of Tibetan Buddhist teaching about making the most of our precious life. Excellent overview of how civilizations developed.. The Labour government's representatives, as you would expect, always oppose the interests of the developing nations.
