Ibe's disappointing debut, a crime thriller set in Nigeria, introduces homicide detective Tamunoemi Peterside. When a bomb destroys the garage and most of the home of wealthy Pius Okpara, a candidate for governor of Rivers State in the midst of a heated political race, Okpara is not seriously injured, but a state judge's wife, who may have witnessed the bombers get away, soon ends up murdered. The body count rises at an alarming, almost farcical rate as Peterside's superiors oppose him in his efforts to find the truth. Ibe falls short of making a society unfamiliar to most Western readers vibrant, offering instead a superficial picture of corruption and violence. Peterside is constantly taken aback as witness after witness is bumped off, while the bad guys' convenient confessions come across as staged ("Is this a bad movie, where everything is summed up at the end?" one villain tells Peterside). I just wish I knew the correct reading order so that I could read the novellas in the correct sequence with the stories. Here are some of the major issues I have with this book.

- The accompanying study guide has many flaws and incorrect answers. Don't take just my word for it, take my word as the voice of a group of 8 professionals who voted on the death of this book, and the birth of a new book for our club!. I truly love this book. The unevenness makes knowledge transfer unpredictable. Parts of the story were great, but any sexually abused person will tell you that after a traumatic ordeal, you don't go back to having sex right away.not gonna happen even with your spouse. A general good book. This one was really different and I really enjoyed the writing and the story .. You won't be disappointed..
