Both the solo lines and the chords are hip in a modern bebop style. He predicted the outcome. Consequently, the book ultimately becomes an example of Western scientific arrogance attempting to explain a profound system of knowledge that is thousands of years old and completely inexplicable to the "rational" world view.. The author doesn't even tell readers what happened to the major characters, either the famous ones whose fate is recorded in history or others who are probably fictional.
